Peace Dollars contain .7734 troy ounces of silver, with their composition being 90% silver & 10% copper.

The Peace Dollar was created to honor the everlasting peace that was supposedly going to exist after the end of World War I. As history would have it, this peace lasted less than 30 years until the Second World War commenced. Similarly, the Peace Dollar was a short lived coin, as it was produced for ten years: 1921-1928 & 1934-1935. Also similarly to the World Wars, the Peace Dollar was the last 90% silver half dollar ever.

The obverse of the Peace Dollar features Lady Liberty with a crown modeled after the crown of the Statue of Liberty. The year of mintage is at the bottom of the coin with “LIBERTY” minted at the top. The words “IN GOD WE TRVST” are minted towards the bottom of the coin as well.

The reverse of these coins feature a regal looking bald eagle the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” are minted along the top with the words “E PLURIBUS UNUM” just below. The words “ONE” & “DOLLAR” are minted on either side of the eagle. The word “PEACE” is minted at the bottom of the coin. Any mintmark on a Peace Dollar would be just above the tail feathers of the eagle.
